This is a Hoopoe (Upupa epops). It’s a common bird all over Africa, Asia and Europe.
The Hoopoe looks like a zebra and has a distinctive crest on its head. The crest can be folded down. For instance during the somewhat funny flight. When Hoopoes fly they go up and down with every beat of their wings.
Here in the field behind the garden is a family of about seven or eight Hoopoes. All day they fourage on the ground for all kinds of small insects.
