A great way to explore different drawing techniques is to tackle just one subject. Something as simple as an apple is perfect for this.
The shape is geometric. You can draw it both spatially and flat, with or without shadow, in colour or black and white.
All kinds of drawing and painting techniques are eligible. If I want to draw but don’t have much inspiration for a subject, an apple is always a good alternative.
You can make drawings of another kind of fruit if that pleases you more, of course. I have added some examples.
All works are part of my personal challenge in 2019 to create daily.

All kinds of techniques
When you draw with pencils, try different hardnesses. Soft pencils, 3B to 6B, are easy to rub out. Hard pencils, 3H through 6H, are better for hatching.
Aquarelle pencils are marvellous. Usually, pencils are waterproof, but Karisma Graphite Aquarelle pencils aren’t. To top it off I discovered something that’s just not possible in a digital painting – or maybe I haven’t found it yet. If the paper is too wet a hard pencil point can tear it up!
